What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

The NDIS is an initiative of the Australian government to support people with a “permanent or significant disability”. It provides reasonable and necessary support to all eligible participants and helps them lead a focused and empowering life.

NDIS Eligibility Criteria

  • NDIS is valid throughout Australia and open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, or individuals with a Protected Special Category Visa.
  • The NDIS covers all kinds of disabilities, be they physical, cognitive or mental. But it should be “permanent”, i.e., last lifelong or “significant”, i.e., limit an individual’s ability to perform everyday activities on their own.
  • To be eligible for the NDIS, one must be between 7 and 65. Other supports are available for children below 7 and people over 65.
